Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh decided to make drones and closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras available in all Punjab prisons to toughen the Punjab jail security.
During a meeting held to review the prison security system, Punjab CM declared a slew of measures to strengthen jail security.
Following the murder case in Nabha jail and rioting in Ludhiana jail, CM decided to send Punjab Police intelligence officials on deputation to the jails department to support the staff in collecting intelligence that might be vital to ensuring foolproof security in jails.
Amarinder also directed the DCs to make personal inspections to identify gaps and ensure that the same were plugged immediately.
Taking a serious note of the serious incidents in Punjab jails, another decision made by CM was to fill all the 700 vacant posts of jail wardens without delay.
Amarinder also asked the jails department to formulate a comprehensive strategy to segregate undertrial gangsters and radicals from other prisoners by shifting them out to other jails outside the state.
The proposal was aimed at preventing radicalization and planning of terrorist/gangster/criminal activities from the prison premises.
