Montreal: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who arrived on the anniversary of the 1989 École Polytechnic Massacre, has said that he would ban the handguns.
Talking at the Montreal Radio 98.5 FM on Thursday, Trudeau said that complete ban on the handguns cannot be ruled out.
He said such incidents in Canada are not acceptable. The government plans to restrict access to people’s handguns.
The Prime Minister said that the aim of the government is to ensure that people with criminal mentality have to abolish intimate access to handguns and such assault weapons so that there is no École Polytechnic riot.
PM Trudeau came to attend the 29th anniversary of the École Polytechnic Massacre and paid tribute to those killed in the shooting.
In this massacre, 14 girl students were shot dead.
Trudeau joined Premier Francois Legault and other political leaders at a memorial event on Mount Royal later Thursday.
