Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Thursday rebutted the allegations of Sukhpal Singh Khaira that the state canals were going dry as the government was distributing excess water to Pakistan.
CM Captain said that the surplus water was being released as a safety measure to prevent flooding in the areas along the Sutlej and Beas.
Terming the claims of Punjab Ekta Party President as politically motivated, the Chief Minister said that it aimed at spreading disinformation.
Lashing out at the PEP leader, Capt Amarinder said that Khaira is a chronic attention-seeker with no credibility and no respect for truth.
The decision to discharge excess water is a precautionary measure taken at a meeting held on May 28 by a technical committee, where all partner states were represented, added the Captain Amarinder Singh.
