The domestic stock markets started on a negative note on Monday’s trading session.

The S&P BSE Sensex fell as much as 125.88 points to touch 36,420.60, and the NSE Nifty50 hit 10,894.25, down 49.35 points.

At 9:41 am, the 30-share Sensex traded at 36,328.95, with a loss of 217.53 points or 0.60%, and the 50-scrip Nifty was 74.45 points or 0.68% lower at 10,869.15.

Losing between 2% and 3.3%, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Mahindra & Mahindra, GAIL India, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, and ONGC were top Nifty laggards.

In the global markets, the blue-chip index was last 0.4% higher; South Korea eased 0.2%, while the Australian stocks were 0.6% lower.

The MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan traded flat 0.1%.

Meanwhile, the BSE Sensex surged downside 425 points or 1.15% to close at 36,546, while the broader Nifty settled 126 points or 1.14% at 10,944.
