Teenager’s obsession for social media is quite visible.
The addictive part of the social media is very bad influence and can disturb personal lives as well.
A 16-year-old Malaysian teenager killed herself under the influence of social media.
The girl posted a poll on her Instagram account asking her followers ‘whether she should live or die’.
After the majority her followers voted in favor of her ‘death’, the girl jumped from a three-storey shop in the city of Kuching.
According to the investigators they found out about her social media post, when they checked out her instagram account and found a five hours earlier post which read,” Really Important, Help Me Choose D/L” (Death/ Life).
Police chief Aidil Bolhassan said that 69% of the teen’s followers had voted for ‘die’, prompting her to kill herself.
“The girl has been suffering from depression as in one of her earlier poster on another social media handle facebook she wrote” WANNA QUIT F**KING LIFE I’M TIRED”, The Police in the east Malaysia state added.
This case driven the attention of a lawyer and Minister Ramkarpal Singh, and he suggested that since suicide is a criminal offence in Malaysia, those who voted for the teen to die could be guilty of abetting suicide.
Concerned about teenagers future, Ramkarpal said, “Would the girl still be alive today if the majority of netizens on her Instagram account discouraged her from taking her own life? It’s a national issue which must be taken seriously.”
