Tension rose as Shiv Sena and Sikh activists meet head-on each other while brandishing swords in the old city area, near Chaura Bazaar, in Ludhiana.
According to the DCP Gurmeet Singh, “It all started after a rumour got spread that the near football chownk someone burnt a statue which related to Sikh religion.”
On other side there was a buzz that Sikh activists supposedly tore a poster of Shiv Sena.
Demanding a immediate arrest of sikh activists, the Shiv Sena leader Rajiv Tandon gathered at Chaura Bazaar and raised anti-Khalistan slogans.
The situation became tense after several Sikh activists also reached there.
Police Commissioner Sukhchain Singh Gill, DCP Gaganajit Singh, DCP Ashwani Kapoor and other senior officers with large police force reached the spot to calm down the tempersm and entire area was cordoned off by the police.
During all this mishmash a video got viral on social media in which both the Hindu and Sikh activists were seen yelling on each other and a Sikh activist out of anger slapped a Hindu activist.
