Punjab police are at their heels in this new fight against drugs, at least this is what it is looking like at the moment.
After miserably failing to bag any big fish in their mission of breaking the drug nexus, Punjab police has started a cleansing ritual within the department.
Superintendent of Police from Sangrur Mandeep Singh Sidhu has suspended six police officials yesternight including two SHOs.
All suspended cops have been ordered to take charge at police lines. SSP Sidhu has been recorded saying “SHO of Sherpur failed to act against drug paddlers despite having enough information against the drug paddlers; also he failed to supervise the work of his juniors.”
The same was said on the suspension of the SHO of Malerkotla-2.
As per talks in media, a fat file of complaints against these six has been sitting in SSP office since long, and these orders are not a shocker.
SSP providing the information on the topic said: “all six suspended officers were neither conducting sufficient raids nor spreading needed awareness against drugs and drug peddlers, they have been asked to report to the police lines where the rest of the investigation will take place.”
The suspended officers include Sherpur police station SHO, Rakesh Kumar, SHO Police Station Malerkotla-2, Nirmal Singh. ASI Darshan Singh, head constables Deepak Kumar, Karnail Singh and driver Nirmal Singh.
The political pundits see this step, nothing but a politically inspired step; ever the resurrection of drug menace in Punjab, the opposition has been targeting Amarinder Singh government over Punjab police’s involvement in the drug industry.
According to many political experts, this action is just a weak jab in the dark, a feeble attempt to get back at the opposition and their allegations.
