Air India to Start Amritsar-Delhi-Toronto Flight from 27 Sept

Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Friday that Air India would start Amritsar-Delhi-Toronto flight from September 27, adding that it will fly three times in a week. “Delighted to announce the commencement of a thrice weekly @airindiain flight between Sri Amritsar Sahib and Canada. The Amritsar-Delhi-Toronto flight will commence on the occasion of World Tourism Day on 27 September,” Puri wrote on Twitter. “I am glad I was able to help in fulfilling this long pending demand of citizens of Guru Nagri and devotees who travel from North America to pay obeisance at Sri Harmandar Sahib, Durgiana Mandir and other holy places,” he added. MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla thanked Puri for initiating the flight and said that numerous flights from Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport were being operated via Delhi for various destinations, while the virtual gain for Punjabis would have been if Air India’s flight schedule was Delhi-Amritsar-Toronto. “Though, the Amritsar-Delhi-Toronto flight is a positive signal, I would like to remind Puri that Punjabi NRIs demanded a direct flight from Amritsar to various destinations like Toronto, Birmingham, London and Brisbane, not through Delhi,” Puri added. Puri further said that if it’s not possible at present juncture, then the other flights for various countries too should be routed through Amritsar and this would strengthen the economic condition of the Amritsar airport.
