The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today paid tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his first death anniversary at his memorial, Sadaiv Atal in New Delhi.
Founding member of the BJP, Vajpayee died on August 16 last year at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
Following a prolonged illness, the BJP stalwart passed away at the age of 93.
President Ram Nath Kovind, PM Narendra Modi, BJP national working president JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other leaders visited his memorial to pay tribute to Vajpayee.
Not only, Vajpayee’s daughter Namita Kaul Bhattacharya but also his granddaughter Niharika was present at Vajpayee’s death anniversary function.
From 1998-2004, Vajpayee led the National Democratic Alliance government.
Vajpayee was the first-ever BJP leader to have become the Prime Minister of India.
Vajpayee served as Prime Minister three times –in 1996, 1998 and 2004.
His birthday falls on December 25, which is also celebrated as ‘Good Governance Day’ by the party.
The three-time PM was conferred with the Bharat Ratna in 2014.
