After ruling Punjab for 10 years Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has seen the worst political scenario in its history. Gurcharan Singh Tohra, Longowal, Jathedar Talwandi Captain Kamaljit Singh and Parkash Singh Badal had fought very hard to keep up the spirits of SAD. But Shiromani Akali Dal witnessed friction and rebels among the party. Political leaders who sidelined themselves from SAD are Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Brahmpura, Ratan Singh Ajnala. The friction resulted due to rift of party leadership with these leaders. SAD party head is Sukhbir Singh Badal.
One of the said rebels is Tejinder Singh Sandhu. Sandhu was an active member of SAD after his father Jasdev Singh Sandhu. According to Tejinder Singh Sandhu the party leadership needs a change. He says that even Sukhbir Singh Badal could revive Shiromani Akal Dal by new techniques.
Gold medallist in LLB and Masters in Journalism Tejinderpal Singh Sandhu, had been a very active SAD member. He was Halqa Incharge from Ghanaur constituency in Patiala. He campaigned for SAD in Ghanour. It was very normal that the halqa incharge would get the Party Ticket from the concerned constituency. He was removed from the Halqa Incharge by Sukhbir Singh Badal without giving him any reason. At a time Sandhu had contested against Lal Singh of Congress. But unfortunately Sandhu lost by negligible margin. Then on Sukhbir order’s Sandhu started working as Ghanaur constituency. But again Sukhbir denied a party ticket for elections to Sandhu on the last day. Then with the support of his followers Madam Sandhu contested as an independent candidate.
Even after so much happened, Tejinder Singh Sandhu says he is still Akali at heart. He says he had never quit Akali Dal then where from comes the news of reunion. Even Parkash Singh Badal visited his residence after his daughter’s marriage. Sandhu was approached by Sukhpal Khaira to join his party claims Sandhu.
Though the old supporters of Akali Dali have diminished, Akali Dal needs to revamp the position of Akali Dal in Punjab. Akali Dal and BJP have a great alliance in Punjab. The alliance have won elections in Punjab. As per Tejinder Singh Sandhu, it is somewhat difficult for SAD to contest without any alliance. Even Sandhu claims that if the measures in Bargari Kaand had been taken on time, the matter would not had worsened to this extent. Government should have taken a swift action in that sensitive matter.
