“Have No Talks with Pak, Stop Work on Kartarpur Corridor”: Swamy
BJP MP Subramanian Swamy, a Member of Parliament of the Bharatiya Janata Party, who has often been in the limelight due to his controversial statements, is yet again in controversy because of his statement. Subramanian Swamy said the work on the Kartarpur corridor project should be stopped in the interest of the nation. “There should be no talks with Pakistan on any issue”, Swami said, while addressing the media. “We should not have any relation with Pakistan. They (Pakistan) have not stopped terrorism and have not handed over those (referring to terrorists) who have been hiding there after committing crimes here,” Swamy added. Swamy said that the Sikhs should understand Pakistan’s clever move, as the Kartarpur Corridor would draw the international community’s attention. Pakistan just wants to covey that they are cordial in building relations and wants dialogue. According to Swami, though the matter is linked to the religious sentiments of the Sikhs, he hopes that the Sikh community will understand this as even before this they had made many sacrifices in the interest of the nation. In a major initiative last November, both India, and Pakistan had agreed to set up the Kartarpur corridor to link the historic Gurdwara Darbar Sahib-(the final resting place of Guru Nanak Dev — to Dera Baba Nanak in Gurdaspur). Responding to Swamy’s statement, Akali Dal termed that this is his personal opinion and his words expressed his feeling of hatred towards Pakistan. The BJP’s policy is very clear on the construction of Kartarpur Corridor.
