England team defeated New Zealand team in the Super-Over thriller in the finale of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, to pick up their maiden World Cup title at Lord’s cricket stadium in London on Sunday.
This is first ever Cricket World Cup for England following defeats in 1979, 1987 and 1992.
“It’s been an absolutely incredible journey … I still can’t quite believe it,” said England’s captain Eoin Morgan.
After winning the toss, New Zealand cricket team chose to bat and had scored 241/8 in 50 overs, to which England cricket team also scored the same leading to one-over eliminator.
In the one-over eliminator i.e. Super-Over, England batted first and Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler scored 15 runs in partnership, and New Zealand too scored the same runs but for the loss of one wicket, which paved the way for England win on boundary count.
New Zealand’s captain Kane Williamson was made ‘Player of the Tournament’, said, “Just gutted … There’s a lot of disappointment.”
