Be it Bollywood or regional cinema, movie stars do have a large fan following.
However, the question here is once the actors are elected, do they really turn out to be good politicians?
Some film stars have already dabbled in politics over the years and we can say that they know how to play with words ‘politically’.
Political parties have always harnessed celebrity power on the election trail.
The Bharatiya Janata Party, which had won the 2019 general election with a majority by winning 303 seats out of 543, did used star power to raise the number game (votes).
-Son of veteran actor Dharmendra, Bollywood actor Sunny Deol entered the list of actors joining politics.
Sunny joined the party in the presence of Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman on April 23, 2019.
The BJP fielded Sunny Deol as the party candidate for the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency and Sunny did won the elections by defeating Sunil Jakhar of Congress.
However, not long ago after his victory, Sunny was surrounded by controversies, or you may call the ‘real politics’.
- Sunny Deol’s was in controversy for his poll spends crossing Election Commision limits.
- MP Sunny Deol appointed a writer as his “representative” in the parliamentary constituency and his move created a lot of buzz.
Randhawa, an MLA from Dera Baba Nanak, an Assembly segment that is part of the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituenc, said, “Sunny Deol has betrayed voters of Gurdaspur constituency by appointing a representative.”
Sunny cleared the air with his tweet saying that ‘the controversy was created out of nowhere’.

-As a part of Mamata Banerjee’s plan to win the support of the locals, the popular celeb Nusrat Jahan, who predominately works in Bengali Cinema joined active politics, as she was welcomed as a deserving MP candidate from the Trinamool Congress or TMC.
Nusrat filed her nomination for the Basirhat parliamentary constituency, in West Bengal and he actually did won the Lok Sabha election for the first time defeating BJP’s Sayantan Basu by nearly 3.5 lakh votes.
After, the Newly-elected TMC MP Nusrat Jahan got married with a Jain businessman and took oath as an MP of the Lok Sabha on June 25.
Nusrat has hit back at the Muslim hardliners for sporting sindoor and mangalsutra in the Lok Sabha.
Wearing a sindoor and bangles became a subject matter of controversy.
The Fatwa-happy Dar-ul-Uloom had issued a fatwa against Nusrat Jahan for marrying a non-Muslim.
However, after the fatwa many politicians like Mimi Chakraborty, Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Arif Mohammad Khan came to her support and the matter left the limelight.
-Haryanvi dancing sensation and ‘The Dosti Ke Side Effects’ actress Sapna Choudhary has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party. Choudhary joined the party at the launch of BJP’s membership drive in the national capital.
‘Teri Aakhya ka yo Kajal’ song sensation joined the politics a bit late, so it’s yet to see what will she offer to the platter of politics.
There are few names like Smriti Irani (Minister of Textiles), who are doing wonders in politics despite of their entertainment background.
Do you think that it is fair to choose our leaders on the basis on their on-screen performances?
