Punjab Police Raids On: More Traders in Attari Heroin Haul Detained
The Amritsar rural police started tightening the security and investigation measure after to the recovery of 550-kg heroin from Attari Integrated Check Post. After investigation of Kashmiri trader Tariq Ahmad Lone, a trader who was nabbed by the Customs Department, the police ended up with few names. In connection with the ongoing investigation, the police had detained a trader, Ajay Gupta, who is supposed to be the owner of a firm named ‘Fast Forward’- that deals in import and export. As per reports, Gupta was not only in touch with Lone but was also with truck driver Jasbir Singh and his son Harpreet Singh. In a press note, the Customs had said importer Gurpinder Singh and Tarik Ahmad Lone identified the truck number, which was supposed to carry further the consignment from the godown of the importer. Whereas, the truck driver, Jasbir and his son Harpreet were just suppose to pick up the narcotics, (concealed in a consignment of rock salt) from Gurpinder’s godown and deliver it at someone else’s place. Further, the Customs had also said that based on Jasbir’s statement, “it came out that the consignment was believed to go to one person named Ranjit Singh alias Rana alias Cheeta.” Police teams have already picked up around half a dozen persons for interrogation from the place where Gurpinder Singh lives. The police is not just planning to take Gurpinder Singh in remand but are also looking for Ranjit Singh.
