Punjabi community in India and across the world are bringing laurels whether its politics, business, social standings and in educational spheres as well and one such achievement has been made by Sukhjot Kaur Samra.
Making Punjabis proud globally, Jalandhar-born Sukhjot Kaur Samra has created history by winning SPSA (Saskatchewan Polytechnic Students’ Association Inc.) president election.
Sukhjot, who is doing her degree course in financial studies in the Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, Canada, had at the age of 18 years accomplished a similar feat by winning the Campus Vice President election during her study at Moose Jaw Campus.
After winning the SPSA election, Sukhjot Kaur Samra joined her office as President on 1st April. And, she is the first international student and the first female to hold this prestigious office.
Earlier, only Canadian male candidates won this highly important position.
Sukhjot’s groundbreaking victory has brought laurels to her native Jalandhar and to her family.
It is worth to mention here that the leadership values in the fields of administration and education were inextricable part of her upbringing as she is the daughter of Dr. Gurpinder Singh Samra, who is serving as a Principal at Lyallpur Khalsa College, Jalandhar. Principal Samra is also known as a renowned educationist of the region.
Finished her schooling in Commerce stream from Jalandhar’s Cambridge International Co-educational School, Kaur not only excelled in academics but also in sports and cultural activities. Moreover, she received an award for the best speaker in the school.
As the SPSA President, Sukhjot Kaur Samra has lead the student associations in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and other state campuses along with introducing various schemes for Student Welfare, and suggesting her views on the problems face by students.
A proper office and assistant staff is provided for the student working on this prestigious position so that the office holder prepares the programs and policies efficiently for the student welfare.
Apart from this, this institution works to infuse leadership qualities among students, to ensure all-round development of students, and promoting cultural harmony.
Its vision is to provide educational opportunities to the students at the municipal, provincial and national levels and to give them a platform to express themselves.
