The equity benchmark indices started in green on Friday trading session amid gains in Asian peers.
In the early trade, the Sensex index of S&P BSE gained as much as 88.84 points to 39,675.25, while the Nifty 50 index of NSE rose as much as 30.15 points to 11,871.70.
At 9:57 am, the BSE 30 traded at 39,574.42, with a loss of 11.99 points or 0.03%, and the Nifty 50 index was at 11,831.10, down 10.45 points or 0.09%.
Top gainers on the 30-share Senex were Maruti, PowerGrid, Sun Pharma, Larsen & Toubro, andTech Mahindra, trading between 0.75% and 1.70%.
Adani Ports, Infosys and Tech Mahindra were the top contributors to the gains on the 50- scrip Nifty index.
In the global markets, MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan edged up 0.02%, the US S&P 500 gained 0.38%, Nasdaq Composite rose 0.73%, while Japan’s Nikkei stock index was down 0.3%.
Meanwhile, the Sensex fell 6 points to close at 39,586.41, and the broader Nifty finished down 6 points at 11,842.
