A Bathinda Police’s Crime investigation agency (CIA) team carrying out a raid at Desu Jodha village in Haryana’s Sirsa District were thrashed and came under fire leaving seven police cops injured on Wednesday Morning after suspected drug peddlers and villagers attacked police.
The police team also opened fire in which a 45-year-old villager was killed. The team was rescued by the Haryana police. The Haryana Police has begun an investigation in connection with confinement and beating of Punjab police team in Desu Jodha village of Sirsa district.
According to the police, a man identified as Jagga Singh succumbed to his bullet injury and died at Odhan Community Health Centre. Two policemen Kamal and Sukhdev were also seriously injured in the incident. Kamal was hit by a bullet in his abdomen, while Sukhdev also received bullet injuries, police said. Harjinder, Gurtej and a lady constable Manpreet were also injured. All the five injured personnel have been admitted to Max hospital in Bathinda. The policeman with the bullet wound is believed to be in serious condition.
Bathinda Senior Superintendent of Police Nanak Singh said: “Police had booked some suspects under the NDPS Act and a team had gone to arrest them when they were attacked”.
Reportedly, a case was registered in Bathinda’s Rama Mandi area in which two persons were arrested. One of them had escaped and Bathinda police’s CIA team had gone to arrest him from the Desu Yodha village in Haryana’s Sirsa district when the incident occurred.
The villagers engaged in a physical skirmish with the CIA team. The incident took place early morning around 5 am in connection with a case of drug trafficking.
It is learnt that 6000 tramadol tablets were recovered by Punjab Police from an accused who during interrogation informed that he had purchased the prohibited pharma pills from a resident of village Desu Jodha.
According to the law, the Bathinda police should have sought help by informing the local police in this case, which shows a procedural lapse on the part of Bathinda Police.
Villagers had attacked a CIA team and also torched their vehicles to retaliate them and in self-defence, police fired in the air to scare them.
As soon as the matter was reported, a team of Sadar Police Station Dabwali immediately rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Haryana Police has taken up the matter with Punjab Police at the highest level and all aspects of the case are being investigated after registering cases into the matter.
