The internet went gaga over a spectacular video footage posted by a father and son duo from Kerry in which they had a “face to face” encounter with a pod of humpback whales.
Terry Deane and his 14-year-old son Tomás from Camp decided to go whale watching up the coast near Brandon in their rib boat on the longest day of the summer, June 21.
While Terry was casually filming on his son’s phone, he captured an incredible moment experienced by his 14-year-old son about 15 miles northwest of Brandon.
The video shows a breathtaking view, in which a humpback unexpectedly rises within feet from the water near 14-year-old Tomas.
Tomás can be seen astound when he have a close encounter when one of the humpbacks ‘spyhopped’ out of the water- Spyhopping is a practice done by Whales in order to get a better view of their surroundings.
“We were observing three animals feeding for about an hour, but then they came over to the boat to check us out,” Terry said in statement.
Reportedly the boy and his father said that the incident was ‘unreal’ and they were shaking, ‘not with fear’, but in awe.
CEO of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, Simon Berrow described the video recording as “amazing “and said that encounters are becoming recurrent as more number of whales are spending time in Irish water.
