When Twitter user asked Sushma Swaraj, ‘Why Chowkidar’?

An Indian-origin man died while his wife sustained injuries after an immigrant stabbed them near Munich in Germany, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said on Saturday.

The external affairs minister tweeted, “Indian couple Prashant and Smita Basarur were stabbed by an immigrant near Munich. Unfortunately, Prashant has expi red. Smita is stable. We are facilitating the travel of Prashant’s brother to Germany. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.”

Adding further, Sushma said that she has asked Indian mission to take care of the couple’s two children.

Details of the incident and the couple are not immediately known.

Meanwhile, a Twitter user asked Sushma Swaraj that why she, “the most sensible” BJP leader, had to add “chowkidar” prefix to her name on the micro-blogging site.

Swaraj tweeted, “Because I am doing Chowkidari of Indian interests and Indian nationals abroad.”

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “Main Bhi Chowkidar” (I too am a watchman) campaign, Congress president Rahul Gandhi raised counter slogan of “Chowkidar Chor Hai” (the watchman is a thief) jibe at him.

Modi added prefix ‘chowkidar’ to his Twitter name and almost all BJP leaders including some Union Ministers followed the suit.

Rahul Gandhi has been attacking Modi over the alleged wrongdoings in the Rafale deal.

Gandhi has very often used the slogan “Chowkidar Chor Hai” while accusing Modi of irregularities in the deal.
